Index
A gauge that summarizes the performance of a group of stocks in a single number (S&P 500, Nasdaq 100, DAX, BIST 100 of Borsa Istanbul). Traded through futures and CFDs.
You can't buy or sell the index itself; its futures contract (ES, NQ), CFD or ETF is what trades. Index futures are among the most liquid and most closely followed instruments; the US open (16:30 Turkey time, UTC+3) and macro data are the main sources of movement.
The Nasdaq 100 is tech-heavy and more volatile; the S&P 500 is broader and more balanced; the DAX is the main index of the European session.
