Demo account

An account that trades at real prices with virtual money; enough for learning the platform and the strategy, not for learning the psychology.

Fills on a demo are usually better (no slippage), and since there is no feeling of losing money, discipline goes untested. One to three months of demo is enough to confirm the strategy mechanically.

The next step is a small live account or a prop firm evaluation; both bring the emotional reality.
