The speed and strength of a price move. Momentum strategies join strong moves; mean reversion strategies wait for excess momentum to run out.
Momentum is measured by candle body size, volume and indicators like ROC/RSI. Breakout and trend-continuation trades rely on momentum.
Momentum running out (shrinking bodies, long wicks, divergence) is a herald of a reversal or consolidation.
